Why doesn't the Library subscribe to Hoopla, Kanopy, or other popular services?

Unfortunately, these very popular services are paid for by libraries on a pay-per-use model and are increasingly expensive for libraries to provide to their users. In 2024, Hoopla reduced the flexibility of libraries to limit their costs, leading to some libraries canceling the service altogether. The Library does purchase a limited number of "advantage" copies of titles for the digital collection available through the Libby app. Colchester cardholders are welcome to make suggestions for purchase via this form.
