The Colchester Land Use Department (a/k/a the Planning & Zoning Department or Code Administration Department) encompasses the municipal service disciplines of planning, zoning, wetlands, conservation, economic development and historic preservation, in conjunction with the Building Department, Engineering Department, and the office of the Chatham Health District Sanitarian. Collectively, our staff are responsible for the formulation, implementation, and enforcement of plans, policies, and regulations related to land development, natural resource protection, building construction and civil infrastructure. Public Health services are provided through the Town’s partnership with the Chatham Health District.

The Department assists the public, development professionals and other municipal departments with land use matters, and provides staff support and administrative services to Colchester’s land use agencies including the Planning & Zoning Commission, Economic Development Commission, Conservation Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Historic District Commission and Open Space Advisory Committee.
