DMV News

If motor vehicle taxes remain unpaid, you will be unable to renew ANY vehicle, snowmobile, or vessel registrations with the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), per Connecticut General Statute 14-33.   Past due motor vehicle taxes must be paid in full in order to receive DMV tax clearance.

All outstanding vehicle taxes in your name, including taxes not yet delinquent, must be paid in full in order for a release to be issued.  If you must pay your past due motor vehicle taxes with a Personal Check, ATM Debit Card and or Any Credit Card you will not receive a DMV       clearance for 10 days.

The Tax Office uploads one file to the DMV website nightly.  Payments made by cash will be released by DMV the next day - all other forms of payment will have a 10 day waiting period - no exemptions.

DMV has stated to us that releases put onto their system can take up to 48 hours or longer to take effect in their system.
