Open Youth Center
Colchester Youth Services holds Open Youth Center on Mondays for 7th and 8th graders and on Wednesdays for 6th graders. Youth Center is open from 2:00pm-4:30pm. Youth are expected to walk to the Youth Center (located at 40 Norwich Ave) directly after school. Pre-registration is not required but is highly preferred for the safety and well-being of all participants. Online registration must be completed within one week after the first time the youth attends the Youth Center.
Open Youth Center provides a safe, drug and alcohol-free drop-in center for middle school kids. The Youth Center is a great space where kids feel safe and comfortable and have the opportunity to “just be kids” for a while. While at the Youth Center, we hope that they feel connected to one or more of our staff members and look to us as role models and sounding boards, should they need that. Open Youth Center is staffed by our full-time program coordinators as well as 3 part time youth center supervisors.
During Open Youth Center, kids can have a snack, play pool, air hockey, video games, basketball and more. We also have crafts, spaces to relax, and a reading/homework area. Weather permitting, we offer organized activities on the Green.
