Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

Summer Trip Registration will begin Friday, May 3, 2019 and will continue throughout the Summer.

Additional Waivers: If there is an additional waiver required for a trip it will be noted in the program description and attached to your confirmation email. All waivers are also available on the website.

Transportation for all trips is provided by our 12-passenger vans and driven by experienced Youth Services staff who all have a Connecticut DMV certified passenger endorsement. Each child is required to wear a seat belt.

Scholarships are available and are based on financial need. Applications are available in our office and on the website.

The early bird catches the worm: All programs have a limited number of spaces available and are filled on a first come, first served basis. Once the trip is filled, all others will be put on a wait list.

Should I bother with the wait list?: YES! People always cancel which allows us to bring kids up from the wait list. If people are cancelling a day or two before, we often end up calling several (sometimes as many as 20) kids before finding one who still wants to or can go.

Pickup & Drop-off Location: All trips leave and return to Town Hall (unless otherwise noted) and check-in will take place in meeting room 1.

I get by with a little help from my friends: Signing up with a friend is not necessary. There are a few trips that will use the buddy system and your child may be more comfortable having a friend during those outings. Participants will check in with us at scheduled times and locations. See the program descriptions for details.

We cannot post attendance lists to the public for confidentiality reasons. However, this year we created a closed Facebook group, Youth Services Trips– Who else is going? (controlled by Youth Services) for parents to join after registering for a trip. This way, you can freely share which trips your child is attending and see if their friends are also going.

“You’re How Old?”:  During the summer, all students are considered to be in the grade they will be entering when school begins in the Fall of 2019.

“Oh no, I Can’t Swim!”:  Please be sure that you know what your child’s capabilities and limitations are and pass that information on to us. Be sure that they meet the criteria listed in the program descriptions. River tubing can be a frightening experience for a kid who can’t swim!

“Oh Behave!”:  Our expectation of all program participants is that every youth is willing and able to abide by all guidelines and established rules for each trip. If kids are unable to do so, our trips may not be the best option for them this summer.

Refund and Cancellation Policy: In most cases, refunds will only be given for fees if cancellation is received in our office at least 48 hours prior to the trip. In the case of extenuating circumstances, refunds may be given at our discretion.

Weather Policy: We make every effort to cancel trips the day before predicted storms to limit the inconvenience to parents. Unfortunately, the weather forecast isn’t always accurate which can result in a bad call on occasion.
