First Selectman’s Report: 3/28-4/1

  1. The Senior Center Logo Contest: As we design and build a brand-new Senior Center, we are looking to establish a new logo. We are conducting a community-wide contest to design this logo, which we envision using in the new building, as well as in promotional materials such as our monthly newsletter, on business cards and letterhead. If you are interested in creating a design and entering it into the contest, please click here: https://www.colchesterct.gov/home/news/community-wide-new-senior-center-logo-contest
  2. Fornarelli’s Ristorante & Bar will be hosting a Meet & Greet on Friday, April 1st and Saturday, April 2nd. Bar opens at 5 PM and food will be complimentary. The location is 112 Halls Hill Road.
  3. Congratulations to Chris Bellantone for his appointment to the position of Lieutenant/Health & Safety Officer with the Colchester Hayward Fire Department. In the position of Lieutenant/Health & Safety Officer, Chris will be a first-line supervisor as well as oversee the health & safety programs for the department. He will start in this position on Monday, April 4th. Chris has been a Firefighter/EMT with the department since October 2020 and has over 10 years of experience in the fire service. His background, experience and familiarity with the department will make him a great asset in his new role.
  4. The Colchester Hayward Fire Department is conducting a survey of its external stakeholders. Our external stakeholders are our community members which provide valuable feedback to see how they are doing and where they can improve. As an all-hazards emergency response organization, they want to ensure they are providing quality essential services and your responses will assist in providing feedback to assist with that evaluation. Please take a few minutes to complete the CHFD External Stakeholder Survey 2022 to help them help you. The link below will bring you to the survey by either clicking on the hyperlink or cutting and pasting into your web browser. We look forward to hearing from you! The survey will close on Saturday, April 30, 2022. CHFD External Stakeholder Survey 2022: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZNCBJ5S
  5. The Board of Selectmen will begin the process of approving ARPA business applications at their next meeting on Thursday, April 7th.
  6. On April 5th I will be presenting the proposed town budget to the Board of Finance. My budget will not only maintain services, but also enhance services through strategic spending. I am very confident in stating that the community can expect a significant mill rate reduction regardless of how both the town and school budgets turn out.
  7. The Town of Colchester offers both state and local options for tax relief and exemptions. To view a list please follow this link: https://www.colchesterct.gov/assessor/pages/exemptions-and-tax-relief-options
