Blizzard Warning - Colchester & New London County (February 22, 2026)
Colchester’s emergency management team is closely monitoring the developing winter storm expected to impact our region tomorrow. A blizzard warning has been issued for New London County at 1:00 PM Sunday until 6:00 PM Monday.
Snowfall totals for Colchester could be between 18 and 24 inches or higher if the storm lingers or its track changes. In addition to strong winds and blizzard conditions, the storm is expected to bring heavy, wet snow with greater impacts than the winter storm we saw last month.
Light snow is expected to begin around noon, increasing into Sunday evening. Overnight, snowfall rates could be as high as 2 to 3 inches per hour. Snow is expected to continue into Monday afternoon.
Due to the potential for high winds, residents should be prepared for the possibility of power outages. Gusts could exceed 50 miles per hour. Frozen ground should prevent trees from toppling but the risk of snapped trunks and branches remains.
Public Works is preparing to mobilize for storm response. Please give our plow drivers time to clear roads and be aware that roads will likely be impassable during the storm.
Colchester Fire & EMS HQ will be open and staffed and available for use as a warming center. However, we recommend that residents plan to shelter in place and avoid traveling on the roads once the snow begins Sunday afternoon.
A street parking ban will be in effect starting at 10:00 AM Sunday, February 22 and will remain in effect until at least 6:00 AM Tuesday, February 24.
We will share additional updates as the situation develops.
