Youth Action Council
Youth Action Council is a motivated group of 9-12th graders that meets after school weekly to help further the work of the Colchester Youth First Coalition. The goal is to help foster a drug free community and help combat underage drinking. These individuals are motivated and creative and work on leadership skills, community projects, team building, and post secondary skills. Under the leadership of the Prevention Coordinator Marquis Lawson, we have created the Empowerment Project and aim to use these ideals to impact our youth and community as a whole!
We always make sure we prioritize having fun in our group! Creating change can be hard, you need a break every once in a a while. Youth Action Council is all inclusive and we have a wide range of youth with many different interests.
We have done so much good work over the last few months! We have made changes to our community picking up nip bottles alongside the road to minimize polution. We have done several school events where we help educate the student body on drug trends and statistics. And we even created a peer to peer event in the middle school promoting mental health and prevention with a guest speaker!
And finally there are travel opportunities!!!! This year in 2024 we were able to bring youth to Chicago for a Youth Leadership Conference where they were able to learn key essential tools and and resources for change in their community using local data.
