Our Social Service programs are designed to assist individuals and families in meeting their basic needs and are designed to foster independence and promote self-sufficiency while maintaining dignity and privacy.
Back-to-School Supplies and Clothing
Each Fall, kids can receive a backpack, school supplies and a "First Day" outfit. Families can also request additional items throughout the year to replace exhausted school supplies. This program is for Colchester Residents Only.

Energy Assistance
Social Services serves as an intake site for the CT Energy Assistance Program which is administered by TVCCA in Norwich. The program provides qualified residents with heating, gas, and electric bill assistance. Social Services also coordinates with Operation Fuel and Project Warm Up to help keep families warm during the Winter months. Eligibilty guidelines can be found at ct.gov
Applications begin in September 2022. Appointment scheduling begins 8/22/2022.
Food Bank
Social Services works to eliminate hunger in Colchester by providing food and other necessities to our most vulnerable neighbors in a dignified and respectful manner. If you are struggling to buy food for yourself or your family, please contact us. Our services are confidential and professional. An appointment is required, so please call ahead.
Fuel Bank
The Colchester Fuel Bank is funded entirely by donations from generous community members. The Fuel Bank makes it possible for residents in need to receive small oil deliveries during the Winter months to cover the gap between other heating delivery programs.
Applications and Referrals
Assistance filling out applications and forms for programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, health insurance (Access Health), Social Security Disability, and Housing. Referrals for substance abuse, mental health, and other programs are also provided.
Renters' Rebate Program
Social Services serves as an application site for the CT Renters' Rebate Program which is available for CT residents who are elderly (age 65+), or over the age of 18 and eligible to receive Social Security Disability and qualify based on their income.
Holiday Dinners
In collaboration with the Colchester Rotary Foundation and Lion's Clubs, families in need can receive Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. These local civic groups coordinate with Social Services to ensure that anyone needing a holiday dinner with receive one.
