March 12th Update Town of Colchester's Response to COVID-19

Cragin Library Closed to Public

At the current time, there are 6 cases of Coronovirus diagnosed in CT residents.  There are still no cases in eastern CT.  However, we are taking additional steps to prevent widespread contamination.

  • Beginning Friday, March 13, the Cragin Memorial Library will be closed to the public. All scheduled meetings and events will be canceled or postponed until the Town determines  it is appropriate to re-open the Library
    • This includes the Friends of Cragin Memorial Library’s book sale, originally scheduled for this weekend, March 13-15. The book sale will be held as soon as the Library re-opens.
    • Library materials can be returned in the Library book drops throughout the closure. No late fees will be assessed for the duration of the closure.
    • The Library offers a wealth of online resources including ebooks and e-audiobooks, streaming video and TV, SAT/ACT test preparation, and language learning. Please call the Library to ask for assistance in accessing these services.  The staff will be in the building working, but the building is closed to the public.
  • The use of School facilities by outside groups has been suspended until further notice.  The groups involved are being contacted by the Colchester Public Schools.
  • We are holding daily meetings regarding the Town’s response plan and will provide ongoing updates as we modify the plan
  • Any individual who believe they might be experiencing COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, cough, or difficulty breathing should first contact a healthcare provider for screening, unless in need of emergency care.  The healthcare provider will advise you whether a test is recommended.
  • DMV has extended all license renewals by 90 days for drivers’ licenses, learner permits and identity cards that expire between March 10, 2020 and June 8, 2020.  Remember, you can renew your vehicle registrations online.
