SUMMER EMPLOYMENT

The Town of Colchester Recreation Department is looking to fill the following positions for the summer of 2024.

Camp staff applications are due by March 5, 2024. Applications can be found HERE.

Day Camp Director

The Day Camp Director is responsible for the overall management and daily operations of a large summer day camp serving children in grades K-7.  The Director is responsible for the supervision and safety of all campers, volunteers, and camp staff.  Their work will include facilitation of daily and weekly activity plans, behavior management of children, staff supervision, build strong relationships with families and the community. The Day Camp Director must have progressive camp leadership and supervisory experience; knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices when working with children; must be over the age of 21; must be available to attend all training and meetings prior to the start of camp and work at camp, daily June 24, 2024-August 16, 2024. This is a temporary, seasonal, stipend position.

Summer Day Camp Assistant Director

The Day Camp Assistant Director is responsible for the supervision and implementation of the Leader in Training program; the supervision of campers, volunteers and staff as assigned by the Day Camp Director.  The Day Camp Assistant Director must have progressive camp experience and camp leadership experience; knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices when working with children; must be over the age of 21; must be available to attend all training and meetings prior to the start of camp and work at camp, daily June 24, 2024-August 16, 2024. This is a temporary, seasonal, stipend position.

Special Needs Director

The Special Needs Director will be responsible for the overall management, oversight, and coordination for campers with special needs.  Needs may include, but are not limited to, behavioral, intellectual, and physical needs.  Director will facilitate daily and weekly activity plans, behavior management of children as well as build strong relationships with families and the community. The Director will be responsible for assisting staff and campers while at camp. The Director must have leadership and supervisory experience; knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices when working with children; must be over the age of 21; must be available to attend all training and meetings prior to the start of camp and work at camp, daily June 24, 2024-August 16, 2024. This is a temporary, seasonal position.

Summer Day Camp Specialist- Sports/Games, Archery, Arts & Crafts, STEAM, After Care

Day Camp Specialists will work with children in grades K-7. Specialists will be responsible for planning and implementing age-appropriate activities and events within their area of specialty. Campers will rotate through these specialty activities throughout the camp day. Previous experience with children and activity planning required. Knowledge of recreation and summer camp activities a must. Specialists will be hired based on their proficiency in an area such as Arts and Crafts, Sports, Games, Archery, STEAM and After Care.  Certifications as they apply to each area may be required. Must be over the age of 18. must be available to attend all training and meetings prior to the start of camp and work at camp, daily June 24, 2024-August 16, 2024. This is a temporary, seasonal position.

Summer Day Camp Counselor

Day Camp Counselors will be responsible for a group of children as well as all activities their group is involved in. Counselors will be expected to lead a wide variety of age-appropriate outdoor activities, sports, team building and special events.  They may work with different groups of campers throughout the summer in grades K-7. Counselors need a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children; experience with activity planning; knowledge of recreation and summer camp activities; experience with direct supervision on children. Counselors must be over the age of 16 and must be available to attend all training and meetings prior to the start of camp and work at camp, daily June 24, 2024-August 16, 2024. This is a temporary, seasonal; rate of pay starts at minimum wage with increases based on experience.

Summer Day Special Needs Counselor

Special Needs Counselors will work with children with special needs within their assigned camp group. They will work collaboratively with camp staff to create inclusive activities and experiences for all campers. Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience working with special needs children in a group setting. They must have experience with ADL skill assistance, behavior modification as directed by an IEP, and a creative approach to inclusion and fun. Special Needs Counselors must be over the age of 18, must be available to attend all training and meetings prior to the start of camp and work at camp, daily June 24, 2024-August 16, 2024. This is a temporary, seasonal position.

Teen Leaders

Are you someone who enjoys working closely with kids, being a good role model and helping kids reach their full potential? Spend your summer serving as a teen leader and mentor to campers from kindergarten through 7th Grade at Colchester Summer Day Camp! Teen Leaders must be 14 years old prior to the start of camp.  Teen Leaders must be available to attend all training and meetings prior to the start of camp and work for one of the 3 week sessions. This is a temporary, seasonal position and receives no monetary compensation.  This position typically qualifies as volunteer hours including the National Honor Society, academic and religious community service requirements (please confirm with your specific organization.
