Building Inspections - COVID-19 Update

Until further notice, due to concern for the Covid 19 protocols, the Assessor’s Office is making changes to how we perform our data collection and field work as part of our real estate appraisals for properties that have changed/been improved since 2019.

Our office is continuing "Exterior Only" Building Permit inspections in order to update town assessment data as may be necessary.  These inspections will focus on permits for items such as: Decks, sheds, porches, garages, swimming pools, central air conditioning, roofs, siding, and additions etc. While onsite for these type of inspections, we also confirm existing information and often check other exterior measurements for quality control purposes.

Exterior Only inspections are made without notice or appointments because they are grouped by neighborhoods in order to make the most efficient use of town resources.  The vehicles are clearly marked on the door that they are "Town of Colchester Assessor's Office" with the town seal.  Employees will ring the door bell and back up six feet just to alert homeowners as to why they are on the property.  Employees also will be wearing face masks as well as photo identification.

If no one answers the door, the employee leave a typed notice at the door explaining why we stopped by.

For your own safety as well as our employees, ALL face to face conversation should be with a distance of no less than six feet.  Or if it is more convenience, you may call our office and the staff member who visited your property will return your call and be happy to answer any questions you may have.
