The Colchester Board of Selectmen, at their 1 October 2009 meeting reduced the electronics disposal rate from the previous $5.00 per 30 pounds or any part thereof to a new rate of $2.00 per 30 pound or portion thereof. The reduction is based on a new contract with the current contractor, Eco-International, and will be in place at this rate until such time that the State approves a regulation conforming to Public Act 07-189 which requires manufacturers to provide for the collection and disposal of their electronic products at no cost to the consumer. It is
expected this regulation may take until mid-2010 before implementation by the State of Connecticut.
Residents may dispose of applicable electronic devises (computers, monitors, televisions, printers, copiers - no speakers, cables or wires, keyboards, or mouse) at the Transfer Station during regular working hours (Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., except holidays) in a single delivery for the $2/30 lb increment charge. An attendant will weigh the products on a certified and calibrated scale to determine the disposal cost. Materials that weigh in excess of 30 lbs will be charged in additional $2.00 increments
