Mission Statement:

Between the employees we plan, organize and work according to statutory authority, and in accordance with an established collection cycle.  The Tax office is responsible for billing and collecting payments when bills become due.

Our office aggressively collects delinquent taxes by consistently utilizing all tools at our disposal. We work with DMV, State Marshals and an Attorney to assist in the collections of delinquent taxes.





Tax bills for the 2010 Grand List Supplemental and second half of Real Estate are due on January 1st, 2012.

Second Installment of Real Estate and  Motor Vehicle Supplemental bills must be paid in full on or before February 1st, 2012 to avoid interest charges.

2010 Grand List Bills are out.
August 1st 2011 is the last day to pay without penalty.





The mill rate for the 2011/2012 Fiscal year is set at 25.85


We send out one bill for real estate with 2 installment vouchers.  Please submit one in July with payment and one in January.  

You will not receive a second bill.

ATTENTION COLCHESTER TAXPAYERS
        

The Colchester Tax Collector would like to remind the Town of Colchester taxpayers that tax bills on the Grand List of October 1, 2010 are due and payable on July 1, 2011.

       Real estate tax bills of more than $100.00 are due and payable in two equal installments, July 1, 2011 and January 1, 2012.  Real estate tax bills and all motor vehicle and personal property bills are due July 1, 2011
 
*IF THE TAX BILL DUE JULY 1 IS NOT PAID ON OR BEFORE AUGUST 1, THE BILL SHALL BE DELINQUENT AND WILL IMMEDIATELY BE ASSESSED 3% INTEREST.  IN ACCORDANCE WITH CONNECTICUT GENERAL STATUTES, INTEREST SHALL BE CHARGED ON DELINQUENT ACCOUNTS AT THE MONTHLY RATE OF 1.5% (18% PER ANNUM) FROM THE ACTUAL DUE DATE.  THE MINUMUM INTEREST CHARGE IS $2.00.  (Section 12-146 Connecticut General Statutes)

Taxpayers who own property and did not receive a bill or would like a copy of a bill should contact the Tax Office immediately for a duplicate.  

*YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A SECOND BILL IN THE MAIL FOR JANUARY. PLEASE SAVE THE JANUARY COUPON FROM JULY’S BILL .*

**FAILURE TO RECEIVE A TAX BILL DOES NOT INVALIDATE THE TAXES OR INTEREST CHARGES SHOULD THE BILL BECOME DELINQUENT.

**TO AVOID WAITING IN LONG LINES, RETURN YOUR PAYMENT BY MAIL.  
    IF A RECEIPT IS DESIRED, PLEASE SEND A SELF ADDRESSED STAMPED
    ENVELOPE AND TWO COPIES OF THE BILL.

The Tax Office hours are as follows: Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.,
            Thursdays 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please make all checks payable to the Town of
        Colchester, mailed to 127 Norwich Avenue Colchester, Ct 06415.
