Cody Camp Memorial Ballfield Officially Underway
Dateline: November 3, 2009, Colchester, CT
As anyone who has visited Jack Jackter Intermediate School in recent weeks knows, chainsaws, bulldozers, excavators and screeners have been hard at work for some time now, preparing the land for its transition into a ballfield. In fact, the site grading is nearly complete. However, it is never too late to celebrate a momentous occasion such as this. On Thursday, November 12 at 3:45pm the same leaders who worked to get this project approved and developed will come together for an official “groundbreaking” ceremony at the site.
In October 2006, only two months after being diagnosed, Cody Camp passed away at the far too young age of 6 from Burkitt’s Lymphoma, a form of cancer. In memory of Cody, and in recognition of his love for baseball, family friends created the foundation with the mission of building a baseball field bearing his name that will serve to memorialize not just Cody, but all the children of Colchester who have passed before their time. By partnering with the town to develop land on the school campus this dream is now on its way to fruition.
The First Selectman, the Superintendent of Schools, and the chairs of the Boards of Education and Finance will join representatives from the Cody Camp Foundation, along with Patricia and Donald Camp, to ceremonially break ground on the ballfield site.
