Pistol Permit Process
1.      Successfully complete a Gun Safety Course and obtain a Certificate of Completion.

2.      Obtain an Original copy of your Birth Certificate.

3.      Complete the Application and have it NOTARIZED.  Applications can be obtained at the Colchester Police Department.

4.      Return all documents to the Colchester Police Department.
                * Completed, Notarized Application
                * Birth Certificate
                * Gun Safety Course Certificate

5.      Have your Fingerprints taken at the Colchester Police Department. Monday, Wednesday or Friday at 8:30 am or 3:00pm.  Both Federal and State fingerprint cards need to be completed.  Those are available at the Colchester Police Department and can be completed when you come in for fingerprints.

6.      You will need 3 checks.  One Check made out to "Treasurer of the State of Connecticut" for $15.00 Fingerprinting Fee,  One Check for $19.25 fo the Federal Criminal History check and one check for $50.00 for the State Criminal History check both made out to "DPS"

7.      Your fingerprint cards will be mailed out to the Connecticut State Police,  Middletown, CT. It will take approximately eight weeks for a return reply.

8.      Once a reply is received from the State Police, you will receive a form letter instructing you that your Temporary State Permit is ready to be picked up.

9.      The Temporary State Permit will be issued for a $70.00 fee payable to the "Town of Colchester"
